The ‘The Arch’ initiative has selected the LIFE-Comp0live project, which develops biocomposites reinforced with olive pruning waste for applications in the automotive and domestic urban furniture sectors, as one of the top 100 sustainable solutions in Europe.
‘The Arch’ is a European initiative that has chosen the top 100 solutions based on innovation in five sectors: city and housing, food and health, energy, industry, and mobility. The goal is to bring visibility to specific solutions that contribute to sustainable change in different economic sectors.
LIFE-Comp0live has been one of the seven Spanish initiatives selected in this European competition, highlighting the project’s numerous benefits as it allows for the substitution of fossil-based materials with more sustainable alternatives. It also helps to avoid emissions caused by the burning of olive pruning waste, which generates over 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually in the province of Jaén alone.
Thanks to this award, the responsible team of the LIFE-Comp0live project recently presented the objectives and positive results achieved so far at an event organized by ‘The Arch’ in Málaga. Additionally, the project will be presented at a congress involving 3,000 European leaders aboard a ship that will sail between Saint Nazare and Amsterdam, as well as an event to be held at the European Parliament on June 7th.
In addition to this international recognition, the project has also received the Iberoleum 2023 award, granted by one of Spain’s most prestigious Extra Virgin Olive Oil guides. The project has been recognized for its contribution to the valorization of olive by-products such as pruning waste and its innovative application in industrial settings. This award acknowledges the generation of economic value for farmers and the contribution to achieving a much more sustainable agricultural activity compared to burning olive pruning waste.
