Under the coordination of ANDALTEC, project leader, on September 25 and 26, 2019, the first meeting of the LIFE COMPOLIVE project was held in which all the partners participated: CITOLIVA-Center for Innovation and Technology of Olive and Oil, the UNIVERSITY OF JAÉN and the companies CALIPLAST (France), FORD-WERKE GMBH (Germany) and MATRICERIA PEÑA SL (Spain).

The LIFE COMPOLIVE project will provide value to the olive and new materials sectors by having the objective of developing a new generation of biocomposites based on pruning waste from the olive grove for industrial applications and promoting the substitution of non-renewable resources through sustainable product design of wood-based fibers.

The innovative and pioneering nature of LIFE COMPOLIVE lies in demonstrating the technical viability of the valorization of olive tree pruning waste in the production of fiber for new biocomposites and the reduction of virgin fossil-based plastic due to the amount of natural olive fiber incorporated into the matrix and the use of recycled PP, as well as the reduction of CO2 emissions. In addition, 3 new business models related to the new waste management within the value chain of the olive sector will be created: fibers for automotive sector, outdoor furniture and home furniture.

The LIFE COMPOLIVE project will not only transfer this technology to other major olive oil producing countries but it can also be applied to other European agri-food sectors with lignocellulosic waste generation.
